It's been a couple weeks since I finished the new Tomb Raider game, but since I'm following a couple of Tomb Raider groups on DA I just can't get away from it.
One of the biggest faults I have with this game is how dull the character is. This is a prime example of how a push toward "realism" is killing gaming.
The original Lara Croft design is very distinct. I'm not talking about her proportions, although that does play some little part. I mean the other physical aspects: her trademark dual pistols (which get a laughable nod in the new game's finale), her impossible ponytail, even the style and color of her clothes was unique.
What about the new Lara? Honestly she could be any dark haired college girl in a tank top. Now the argument could be made that this was the purpose of the design, to make you feel that she was the "every-girl". That is NOT the point of a solid video game character and certainly NOT who Lara Croft is supposed to be! Even Nathan Drake has a personality that is distinctly Nathan Drake. The new Lara is so "this could be anybody" that she looses any hint of characterization that would actually make the gamer care about her.
The more I think about it the more thoroughly disappointed I am with this game.

Stupid DA Changes
Ok...can anyone explain to my WHY you can't choose which gallery to put a new deviation in until AFTER it's been submitted? Seriously, the new submit page DOES NOT have the gallery option until AFTER you post the deviation and THEN go into the edit mode. STUPID design. EDIT: Oh, it's part of the "advanced" settings...which is NOT on by default anymore. STUPID design.
New Year, New Place
Finally, have my own home now. It's...different. Same city. Work is progressing on my third book, but Real Life has gotten in the way, especially now that I'm a homeowner. Perhaps someday I can make writing my day-job, but that isn't how it is right now.
Wait...just checking my journal entries. Did I forget to announce that Book 2, The Black Horns, is available on Amazon??? What??? Go check it out!
Strength and Honor!
If it ain't broke...
Ugh...whenever a company makes a change to their interface, do they always consult the same source? Old DA wasn't pretty, but it worked. This is just ugly and likely to chase away a lot of people who don't want to suck it up and deal with it...like me. -_-
The Black Horns
Ok, for better or worse, the second book is essentially finished.
However, before officially publishing, I need to revamp my world maps and make one for Medocci. Also going to purchase my own ISBNs for this project so I can increase my distribution options.
I've also outsourced the book cover.
Started piecing together notes for book 3. No title yet, but I have a good idea where I want the story to go.
