Action pose render of Baiken. Actually had time to put a little more effort into the render. Which of course means I had plenty of time to figure out what was wrong with the whole thing.
I tried using a blue specular map instead of my normal skin toned method. This probably would have been a good idea if I was using the specular map as part of a skin shader in Maya, but I'm not. I use straight blinn materials with diffuse, specular and (sometimes) alpha maps.
The result still looks ok, but it's darker and more plastic than what I usually get. The warm specular map makes things a little more "alive".
The rig on her is much more complex than I normally make. On top of Super Crumbly's AB Auto Rig script I added several splines for her sleeves, hair and kimono. I should post a screen cap. If you're new to 3D it looks intimidating!
